Activist Harrison Gwamnishu Resigns as SSA to Delta State Governor Over Rising Insecurity

By David Akpan

In a move that has sparked widespread conversation across Delta State, popular activist Harrison Gwamnishu has officially resigned from his position as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Delta State Governor on Civil Society and Youth Mobilization.

Gwamnishu, known for his strong stance on human rights and youth empowerment, announced his resignation in response to the growing insecurity challenges facing the state. In his statement, he expressed deep concern over the increasing threats to the safety and welfare of citizens, noting that the worsening situation no longer aligns with his principles and mission to serve the public effectively.

"I took up this role with the hope of contributing meaningfully to the development and safety of our people, particularly the youth. However, the reality on ground demands urgent actions that I believe I can better pursue independently," Gwamnishu said.

His decision to step down comes at a time when many communities across Delta State are raising alarms over incidents of violence, kidnappings, and unrest. Residents and civil society groups have expressed frustration over what they perceive as slow or inadequate responses to the crisis.

During his time in office, Gwamnishu was credited with strengthening the relationship between the government and grassroots civil society organizations. His efforts in mobilizing young people for positive social change earned him respect across different sectors.

Following his resignation, many have taken to social media to commend his courage and integrity, with calls for greater accountability and immediate action to address the security challenges in the state.

As one chapter closes for Harrison Gwamnishu in public office, many anticipate that he will return to his roots as a frontline activist, continuing his fight for justice, security, and the empowerment of young Nigerians. The Delta State Government has yet to comment officially on his resignation.
