Nigeria Grapples with Increasing Cases of Substance Abuse Among Young People, surge in drug abuse cases among the youth, with far-reaching implications for the nation's health, social, and economic fabric. Experts attribute this development to a combination of factors, including peer pressure, curiosity, and the easy availability of illicit substances.

Stakeholders, including government officials, healthcare professionals, and civil society organizations, are sounding the alarm, calling for a multi-faceted approach to address the crisis. They emphasize the need for increased awareness, improved access to treatment and rehabilitation services, and stricter enforcement of laws regulating the sale and distribution of illicit substances.

According to recent statistics, the number of young people seeking treatment for substance abuse has increased significantly over the past few years. Cannabis, tramadol, and other opioids are among the most commonly abused substances, with many users starting as early as 15 years old.

The consequences of drug abuse among the youth are multifaceted, ranging from health problems and academic underperformance to increased crime rates and social instability. Experts warn that if left unchecked, the situation could have long-term negative impacts on the nation's development and prosperity.

Parents, educators, and community leaders are urged to play a proactive role in identifying early signs of substance abuse and providing support to those affected.
