The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele, has emphasized the need for increased efforts to address food insecurity, climate change, and technological gaps in agriculture. Speaking at the conference "Beyond Agriculture: Creating Change and Solving Problems in Food Insecurity" on April 17, 2025, Prof. Mele highlighted the importance of innovative farming solutions, government support, and tech integration in ensuring food security, particularly in Nigeria's Northeast.

The conference, which showcased UNIMAID's commitment to advancing smart farming and sustainable practices, featured speakers such as conference convener Adebayo Adeleke and Dean of Agriculture Prof. Abubakar Ibrahim. They encouraged youth and women to adopt agri-tech to enhance productivity and nutrition.
